Hi - this is a subject I feel strongly about. I have tried hard for 8 years to learn the "Italian ways." I love this dog just the way it is and do not feel the need for ANY changes . I feel as a new Bracco group that we should adhere to the things that the Italians have done that have created this wonderful breed. I am learning Italian so I can better talk to them, I have a strong background in livestock judging, and have tried to learn what a proper bracco looks like. I have traveled to Holland to a bracco judging seminar, to Italy to a Bracco show and field trial, also Bracco training sessions with professional Italian trainers. I have toured many Italian kennels, and I am going back to Italy for the second time. I have tried to see as many Braccos as possible so I can tell the differences between a GOOD Bracco and a bad one. I also have a long history of hunting and, I am continually trying to learn more about the best ways to work a Bracco . They are unlike any other breed. I believe anybody who wants to breed Bracco's has a responsibility to learn as much about the breed as possible.

As I am sure you know, not everyone has the financial resources to make the desired trips to Italy to learn about the breed from those that have maintained it for yrs. Most, can only go on self-education, their eye, learning from others that are willing to share the information, and exposure. The self-education is the tricky part. That usually means our own interpretation. We all interpret things differently. My first Spinone National meeting was a real eye-opener. I was shocked at the variations in the breed.

I do not know much about the Bracco. I have one neutered male. He did not have the qualities that I like in the breed (I have already said I am ignorant about the breed), so breeding was not an option and he was better off without his raging hormones. His mother, to me, is the perfect Bracco bitch. I would almost consider another Bracco IF I knew I would have one that looked like Elena. My male is the sweetest dog ever, he is birdy beyond belief, he is a Bracco, just not what I personally would use in a program.

What you consider nice quality, someone else won't like, and visa versa. There starts the diversity in the breed. I have seen two different looks in the breed, and my preference is the one where they have, what I call, a more roman nose.

PS - probably more idle chatter. Hope you don't mind.
